A not so obvious spiritual disability lurks amongst us in the body of Christ.
A good friend of mine once told me that if you are ignorant when you become a Christian, you will remain ignorant until you educate yourself. Many of us as believers fail to recognize this simple but profound truth.
The Word of God teaches us in 2nd Timothy 2:15 to “Study to show thyself approved unto God”… Hey, “study” in this passage of scripture means that we need to open up the word of God for ourselves. And “approved unto God” means that when you and I are ready…The Great GOD of heaven and earth will let us know, and in doing so we will be able to discern and be free from this innate spiritual disability.
But wait… First things first
Before anyone can properly educate themselves in the things of God he or she must first be a child of God.
A lot of people have made and are making the sad mistake of believing that just because they are created by God that they are his children as well. This is not true. However, if you are reading this article and you fall into this group of people you too can become a child of God today.
Well, I’m glad you’re asking…because as the scripture teaches us in Romans 10:9- “that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is.
Is it really that simple?
So, you ask yourself is it really that simple? Yes, it is. All you need to do is repent of your sins. Because you see everyone has sin as the Bible teaches in Romans 3:23 “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”.
Repent means to simply have a change of heart and mind and then turn against the way that you have been living life and agree with God that he’s right and you’re wrong. It’s just that simple.
So what is the Spiritual Disability Amongst Us?
Here’s the deal…You see once an individual is saved his eyes of understanding begins to be enlightened. He or she will begin to see things in a different light.
The things that one once took part in he or she will no longer desire to participate in them or if they do participate it won’t seem to be as fun anymore because of the conviction that comes from the Holy Spirit that comes to live in every believer and follower of Jesus Christ.
I have come to understand that the conviction of and by the Holy Spirit is one of our most precious gifts from our Heavenly Father. The conviction is God simplest way of teaching us. You can read more about that here with Dr.Charles Stanley’s “In Touch Ministries”.
The Difference between Disability and Helping.
Being able to discern between the not so obvious disability and helping someone can be very tricky. Why is that… you might be asking yourself?
Well, it’s because most of us have a tendency to do just what the word of God teaches us not to do, and that is we forget not to trust in our own understanding.
Because our eyes have been opened, we’re not only able to see things in our own lives that don’t agree with the teachings of Jesus…we are also more aware of the actions in the lives of the people that surround us as well.
This is where the disability creeps in. We all have a tendency to correct others without first consulting with the Lord. This is not wise. The bible teaches that he that wins souls is wise.
We stand the chance of losing out on helping others when we do this. This is when our not so obvious disability can become a liability.
We all are guilty of this. Yet there is hope for us all to rid ourselves and be delivered from this deformed and warped mindset.
How we Overcome…
The Bible teaches that the saved believer has the mind of Christ. You can find that in your bible in the letter that Paul wrote to us here in 1st Cor.2:16.
I must admit that up until very recently this really puzzled me. I believed before now and I still do believe that the saved believer and follower of Christ do have the Mind of Christ. Yet the problem that you and I sometimes face is the ability to use the mind of Christ.
So, for those of you who are like me who may be struggling with the whole mind of Christ thing here’s the key. It’s the Bible. That’s the mind of Christ. There was a saying that we used a few years ago that went as such…”What Would Jesus Do”?
If you ask me, we all need to begin asking ourselves this question again.
So, in conclusion, this not so obvious disability that we all suffer from or have suffered from has a remedy that sure and true. Here it is.
1. We ask ourselves what would Jesus do in this situation? Proverbs 3:5-6
2. We have the Mind of Christ. Let’s use it. And we do this simply by searching the scripture. Because everything that we face in life has a solution for it found in the Bible. 1st Cor 2:16
3. Walk in love towards one another and learn to be more tolerant towards the shortcomings of others and less tolerant of our own.
4. Remember Proverbs 18:21 Death and Life are in the power of the tongue… Use it wisely.
